February 20, 2025 — UniUSA has announced that Sports Reach Basketball will represent the USA in Men’s and Women’s 3v3 Basketball at the 2025 Summer FISU World University Games in Germany, taking place July 16-27. The Games, held every two years, bring together over 8,500 student-athletes from more than 150 nations, making them one of the world’s largest multi-sport events. Basketball games will take place in Rhine-Ruhr, with the event headquarters in Dusseldorf.
About Sports Reach
Founded in 1986, Sports Reach provides university athletes with opportunities for international mission work through sports. The Team USA roster will include four men’s and four women’s athletes from universities across the country. Their tour will run from July 12-26, 2025, beginning with a four-day training camp to prepare for competition, mission work, and cultural exchange. While in Germany, the team will compete against teams from 12 countries and experience other sporting events and international interactions.
Player Selection & Coaching Staff
Sports Reach is currently recruiting college-level players (ages 18-25) who excel in 3v3 basketball and can serve as Christian ambassadors. College coaches are being contacted for recommendations, with the final roster set by April 1, 2025.
The men’s team will be led by Head Coach Kelly Combs, who has 18 years of college coaching experience and 19 years of international coaching experience. In November 2024, he led the USA Men’s Basketball team to a gold medal at the FISU America Games in Colombia. This will be his first time coaching in Germany and leading a 3v3 team.
Coach Combs shared his excitement: “Representing the USA at the World University Games is an incredible opportunity. These young men will gain international playing experience, build friendships, and grow personally. Sports creates unique connections, allowing athletes to engage with future leaders from around the world. This will be a life-changing experience for all involved.”
Administration & Women’s Coaching Staff
Zach Arington, a former Indiana Wesleyan University basketball player, will serve as Tour Administrator. He has participated in and led multiple Sports Reach tours. The head women’s coach and full coaching staff will be announced soon, with discussions currently underway.
