On January 26, we were starting the fifth day of our softball prison mission trip. It had been a great, but pretty challenging week. The guys had made their way into Avon Correctional, which has always been one of our favorites. On several occasions, some of the staff would fix an awesome barbecue for the team. We had been reminiscing on that, so I guess I had food on my brain.
We were supposed to play two different teams that morning, but one couldn’t play due to some altercations. Thankfully, the men that were able to come were really excited.

The game began, and things were going well, but something was gnawing at me. I wasn’t really sure what…then the Lord said “Pizza!” So, I went over to the administration and asked if it was ok. They thought it was a great idea. The buzz of pizza circulated pretty quickly.

The recreation lady and I went out to get the pizzas. When we returned, all the inmates were in the chapel ready to eat. I figured it would be a nice treat, but had no idea how big. Our team began to serve the men, and smiles filled the room. One inmate said he hadn’t had a pizza in 23 years. Another had not had one for 28 years. Yet another had never tasted pizza! I glanced around and saw a few men with little tears. The Lord reminded me that this wasn’t really all about the pizza, but the pizza was tasty.

“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you are doing it to me!” (Matthew 25:40). This day was about serving!

BOTTOM LINE: “God’s definition of what matters is pretty straightforward. He measures our lives by how we love.” – Francis Chan

Take a few minutes and ask God what He wants you to do to impact the life of at least one person.

God’s Glory!
